Centre-back has agreed two-year deal
George Taft is pleased to have achieved his objective after completing a permanent move to Cambridge United.
The 24-year-old centre-back has put pen to paper on a two-year deal as he begins a fourth stint at the Abbey Stadium, following three previous loan spells.
And the defender, who struck up a solid partnership alongside Greg Taylor at the heart of the U’s defence in the second half of last season, always wanted to earn a longer stay.
“I’m really happy that the deal has been done,” said Taft, who joins from Sky Bet League Two rivals Mansfield Town and will be at the club until June 2020.
“This is the fourth time I’ve joined and I can honestly say that every time I have come to Cambridge United I have enjoyed it. It’s brilliant to be here on a permanent basis this time around.
“As soon as I arrived on loan last year, I looked at my future options and felt this was a good fit. I came here with the intention of trying to earn a new contract – that was my goal and I’m delighted I can continue to play here.
“The fact that I know the other players, the head coach and the fans was very appealing and I’m really looking forward to getting back out there at the Abbey.”
With the likes of Taft, fellow new signing Louis John and youngster Harry Darling in the squad, the U’s have moved quickly to boost their defensive options for the 2018-19 campaign.
