Update on U’s injury situation

Jabo Ibehre is on the brink of making a return for Cambridge United.

The striker has not played for the U’s this year after a three-match suspension ruled him out at the start of January, and he has been missing since through concussion.

However, interim head coach Joe Dunne has confirmed that the 35-year-old could be involved at Accrington Stanley this Saturday (February 24).

Barry Corr is ruled out with a groin injury, and George Maris is unlikely to return as he undergoes head injuries protocols after suffering a knock against Grimsby.

“Barry is a lot better,” said Dunne. “It’s good news based in the fact that we felt it was a fresh injury that we could manage.

“We’re really pleased that he’s feeling a lot better about himself. He’s in the gym at the moment and I can’t put a time limit on it, but it’s not the kind of injury that we feared.

“George will be a no unless he can come through tomorrow; you’ve got to follow a protocol for these head knocks.

“We’ve been here with Jabo, and he is training again and will hopefully be added to the squad for Saturday.”

Dunne also provided an update on the prognosis of Leon Legge and Piero Mingoia and possible returns to action.

“I expect Leon to be in contention for Luton which is incredible for somebody who may have missed the whole season,” he said.

“Piero will get through today [Thursday] to see where he is, and affectively, next week, hopefully join in training; so you are looking to the Wycombe game to possibly be available for selection.

Dunne added: “Two positives as we’re looking at Leon to be squad selection for Luton and maybe Piero being squad selection for Wycombe.

“George will be back in the fold by then, and who knows, maybe Barry can tag on to the end of that. So we are in a positive situation.”
