And Cambridge City make progress in Women’s FA Cup

Kelley Blanchflower helped Cambridge United Women make it two wins out of two in the FA Women’s National League, South East Division One as they beat Leyton Orient 3-0.

Blanchflower opened the scoring in the first half, Becky Shephard made it 2-0 after the break and Blanchflower completed the scoring with her second.

Kevin Hoover, United’s first-team manager, said: “I’m really pleased with the result. Can never complain when the players do as they are asked and deliver performances like that. Onto next week and another tough fixture.”

Cambridge City Ladies earned a 2-0 win at Newmarket Town in the FA Cup, preliminary round.

Sarah Mosley almost broke the deadlock for City with a volley from close range that hit the bar, but 10 minutes later, Carla Penny got the breakthrough, driving the ball home.

After the break, City doubled their lead when winger Charlotte Gillies latched on to a perfectly-weighted through ball to finish off.

City will face Peterborough team Riverside in the first qualifying round at home this Sunday (September 2).
