Attacking midfielder sees form earn recognition of peers
Shaun Derry has hailed Luke Berry after the Cambridge United midfielder was named in the PFA’s Sky Bet League Two team of the season.
The 24-year-old has been in fine form this campaign, scoring 20 goals in their push for the play-off places.
And that has helped him earn the accolade and recognition of his peers in the division.
“I think it’s fantastic,” said U’s boss Shaun Derry. “You look at a midfielder who has scored 20 goals, one that has contributed so much to the team this year and I don’t think he has been given the plaudits that perhaps Luke deserves, if I’m honest.
“There have been a number of times where he’s been overlooked for certain accolades and I’m delighted for him.
“I’m geniunely delighted that somebody like Luke has been rewarded for the season that he’s had.
“I think he’s had a fantastic season.
“Not too many midfielders at any level in this country have scored more goals than him, so it’s testament to the year that he’s had.”
Derry added: “As an attacking midfielder you get judged by your goals, and he’s been judged – he’s proven that he is one of the stand-out midfielders in this league.”
