U’s run continues against FC Salisbury United

Cambridge United Futsal will be bidding to extend their unbeaten run to 10 games when they face Genesis this weekend.

They made it nine matches without defeat last Sunday as they triumphed 8-5 over FC Salisbury United in the FA Futsal National Super League.

Salisbury had beaten the U’s at home earlier in the season, and were on an impressive run going into the match.

United had a long list of absentees going into the fixture, but Tim Henery, Chema Cruz and Alberto Morcillo were back in the fold.

Monty Bouttell opened the scoring for United, only for Salisbury to equalise.

But two goals from Angel Martinez and one from Bouttell saw United go 4-1 ahead.

Salisbury pulled one back, but Martinez completed his hat-trick to make it 5-2 at half time.

The visitors reduced the arrears after the break, but Toby Hardwick struck the goal of the game to make it 6-3.

Salisbury pulled another goal back, but Bouttell’s hat-trick saw the U’s edge further clear, and he got his fourth to make it 8-4.

There was still time for Salisbury to get a late consolation, but the win for Luis Mendonca’s ever-improving side moves them up to fourth place in the table.

And they are just one point behind third-placed Birmingham, and have the longest unbeaten run in the division after leaders Reading Escolla were comprehensively beaten by Helvecia.

United will be putting that record on the line on Sunday (February 18), when they make the trip to East London to face Genesis Futsal Club, who are bottom of the table.
