Cambridge United host Olympic themed events

Olympic fever has swept the nation this summer, and it could be set to carry on in Cambridge into the autumn.

At Chesterton Community College, more than 50 children attended the first trial of Cambridge United’s first Olympic school.

The youngsters, aged between four and 12 years old, sampled a range of track and field events with a full course of the multi-sport programme to be rolled out during the October half term.

New-age curling proved to be a popular hit, and other sports that were tasted by the children were the hurdles, archery, hockey and javelin. It builds on the success of Team GB and Paralympics GB.

The full week of the Olympic schools programme will be during the school holidays in October, for youngsters between the ages of four and 12, and will be held alongside the U’s Soccer Schools programme.

Like the popular Soccer Schools, the Olympic schools offer affordable and safe child care with United’s qualified youth development coaches for just £25 per day.
