U’s search for win continues
The pressure is building on Cambridge United manager Shaun Derry.
After three games on the road, it was hoped that a return to the Cambs Glass Stadium last Saturday would bring about a start to winning ways and see them rise off the bottom of the Football League.
But despite taking a first-half lead against Morecambe, two goals in two second-half minutes saw United fall to their fifth defeat in eight games.
It leaves the U’s three points adrift at the foot of Sky Bet League Two, and facing a big week as they travel to third from bottom Newport County on Saturday and then host fourth from bottom Yeovil on Tuesday night.
And the discontent among supporters is growing, with many on social media questioning whether it is time for a change at the top and for Derry to be replaced.
However, United have shown their promise in spells during games, and they have earned wins in cup competitions, beating Championship side Sheffield Wednesday in extra time in the EFL Cup before securing a victory at Shrewsbury in the Checkatrade Trophy.
As would be expected, United have closed ranks this week and they will be desperate to turn that promise into points at Newport this Saturday.
