Four wins out of four for U’s
Shaun Derry was a happy man as Cambridge United continued their winning ways in the Checkatrade Trophy last night.
Uche Ikpeazu’s first-half effort and a Matty Elsdon own goal secured the U’s a 2-1 victory over a Middlesbrough under-23 team.
And the victory made it four wins in a row for United, after their 2-1 success over Accrington Stanley in Sky Bet League Two at the weekend.
“I think the most vital aspect of the evening is that it’s four wins on the bounce and we go into the weekend full of confidence and looking forward to Blackpool away,” said U’s boss Derry.
“I thought it was a fantastic start. We wanted to put them under pressure early. We wanted to impose our physicality and I felt after 25 minutes we probably should have been more than a goal up.
“But we didn’t take our chances at that time, and the one counter that they really got through the heart of us – which we spoke about before – they scored their goal from and that was a disappointing aspect.
“We came out in the second half and put some very good young players on the back foot.”
