U’s striker shortlisted for EFL League Two prize

Uche Ikpeazu is in the running for the September EFL League Two player-of-the-month award.

The Cambridge United striker was in top form last month, creating a strong partnership with Jabo Ibehre as the team shot up the table.

Ikpeazu opened his league account for the season with the only goal in a 1-0 triumph against Colchester United and he was also the match-winner against Coventry City, scoring the second in the 2-1 victory.

Ikpeazu then struck twice in the 3-0 success over Forest Green Rovers last Tuesday.

“Having grown into his imposing body, Ikpeazu’s physicality is terrifying League Two defences this season,” read the EFL nomination.

“Strong in the air, able to hold the ball up or run at defenders, his influence last month extended beyond his four goals and one assist.”

Ikpeazu faces competition from Barnet’s Shaquile Coulthirst, Accrington Stanley’s Billy Kee and Stevenage’s Joe Martin.

The winner will be announced on Friday, October 6.

But Ikpeazu was unable to carry on his rich vein of form at the weekend, as United lost 2-0 at Swindon Town in Sky Bet League Two.

Meanwhile, Cambridge United have launched a new Marvin’s Multi-Sport Camp for the October half-term, which is from October 23 to 27.

Being held at venues across Cambridge, the camps are for children aged five to 12.

Each day, youngsters will get the chance to play a variety of sports, including cricket, curling, softball, dodgeball, hockey, rugby, netball, tennis and football.

The camp costs £15 per day and can be booked by calling 01223 632770 or by emailing cuyd@cambridge-united.co.uk
