Former professional elected Light Blues’ skipper

Nick Koster is looking forward to an exciting future for Cambridge University Rugby Union Football Club after being elected captain at Grange Road.

The 28-year-old South African, who is studying a masters in social innovation at Queens’ College, will succeed Charlie Amesbury as the Light Blues’ skipper as they look to make it three Varsity Match wins in a row.

And former professional Koster, who played for Bath and Bristol, cannot wait to get started, with his official reign starting against Wooden Spoon Anti-Assassins tonight (January 24).

“We had seven losses until 2015 which was very important that we turned around as soon as possible, and I think the previous two captains, Daniel Dass and Charlie Amesbury, have done an exceptional job in doing that,” said Koster.

“We’re now in a position of great strength and there are some really exciting prospects for this season and beyond.

“We’ve seen a huge growth in the amount of players registering to play for the under-20s over the last couple of years. It’s a very exciting prospect.”
