Tons in a draw, while Granta are defeated

Centuries from Andrew Bramley and Tyron Koen were not enough for Burwell & Exning as they were held to a draw by Frinton-on-Sea in Gibbs Denley East Anglian Premier League.

Burwell had been put in to bat, and Bramley and Koen joined forces with the score on 94 for 4.

Bramley, batting at No 3, was the first to be dismissed for 102, after a 106-run partnership with Koen.

The No 6 batsmen was then joined at the crease by Jamie Seabrook (53) and they put on 117 for the sixth wicket to move the score to 314 for six.

Koen carried his bat, having made 111 as Burwell ended their innings on 324 for 6.

The young South African took two early wickets to leave Frinton on 26 for 2, but Burwell were unable to remove their visitors as they closed on 263 for 8 as the match finished in a draw.

Cambridge Granta suffered a 93-run defeat at home to Swardeston.

They won the toss and elected to field, but found Stephen Gray and Joe Gatting formidable foes.

They put on 164 runs for the third wicket, before Gray was removed by Raj Singh, caught Alex Sears, for 116.

Gatting was unbeaten on 85 as Swardeston closed on 262 for 7, as Chris Pepper finished with three for 59.

Granta struggled to get going in reply though, and were bowled out for 169. Sears was the top scorer with 39.

After the weekend’s results, Burwell & Exning sit in sixth place with 216 points, while Cambridge Granta are third from bottom with 164, 62 clear of bottom side Bury St Edmunds.

This Saturday, Granta face a derby at fifth-placed Mildenhall, who had former England batsman Tom Westley in their ranks for the win over Horsford as he had a down day with Essex, while Burwell & Exning are away to leaders Sudbury.
