Pepper and Rice efforts unable to get Granta over the line
Dougie Rice and Michael Pepper’s second-wicket partnership could not propel Cambridge Granta to victory as they were held to a draw by Copdock & Old Ipswichian in the Gibbs Denley East Anglian Premier League.
Granta batted first and the duo came together after the early dismissal of Ben Claydon for eight.
Opener Rice then made 68 and Pepper 72 in a partnership worth 121 runs.
Chris Pepper’s knock of 49 not out carried Granta to 288 all out.
Granta had a couple of early breakthroughs in reply thanks to Raj Singh, but Copdock continued to knock off the runs.
Jed Cawkwell made 66 but it was Tom Rash’s 71 not out that carried Copdock to a draw, as they reached 288 for 8.
Singh finished with three for 45 and Owen Simonsen then took three for 72.
Sam Rippington was among the wickets again at the weekend, but it was another defeat for Burwell.
Captain Joe Tetley scored 79 not out against leaders Sudbury as they were dismissed for 185. Tom Huggins took six for 34.
Sudbury got to their target with a wicket to spare though, reaching 186 for 9 thanks to 69 not out off 35 balls from Dustin Melton.
Rippington finished with four for 73, while Josh Arksey returned figures of three for 29.
