Duckworth Lewis target is easily reached

Joe Tetley produced a captain’s innings to guide Burwell to a Duckworth Lewis victory over Great Witchingham in Gibbs Denley East Anglia Premier League.

James Hale made 60 in Great Witchingham’s innings, as they reached a total of 246 for 9.

The bowlers that did the bulk of the damage for Burwell were Jay Ghelani and Ben Seabrook, who took three for 56 and three for 46 respectively.

Opener Tetley had Burwell ticking along nicely in reply, but then rain interrupted play.

It meant that nine of the 50 overs were lost, and so the umpires agreed that Burwell would be set a revised target of 211 in 41 overs.

And with Tetley anchoring the innings with 103 not out, including 10 fours and two sixes from 109 balls, Burwell reached their target with plenty to spare, with Paul Summerskill contributing 30 not out from 21 balls.

There was also victory for Cambridge Granta, with a six-wicket win over Vauxhall Mallards.

Mitchell Todd (40) and Alistair Shearer (42) offered the only real resistance for Mallards, who were bowled out for 146.

Owen Simonsen was the pick of the bowlers with three for 16, while Henry Campbell and Chris Pepper chipped in with two wickets apiece.

It was then another captain’s innings that guided Granta to victory.

They looked in trouble after the early dismissals of openers Will Hales (0) and Tristan Blackledge (3) had left them on 9 for 2.

But that brought Michael Pepper and Atkinson to the crease.

And Pepper’s 49 and Atkinson’s 55 not out helped Granta to 147 for 4.

Burwell play host to Bury St Edmunds this Saturday, while Granta are away to Norwich.
