South African lets rip against Great Witchingham
Chris Benjamin made sure Cambridge Granta went out with a bang in the Gibbs Denley East Anglian Premier League.
In a season where they have struggled for consistency, Granta concluded their campaign with a trip to Great Witchingham.
Having won the toss and elected to bat, it was not a great start as they found themselves on 39 for 3.
That brought Benjamin to the crease to join Akshaj Krisnan, and the duo put on 109 before Krishnan departed for 31.
Benjamin ploughed something of a lone furrow and was unbeaten at the end of the innings, having hit a huge 166 off 122 balls, which included 27 fours and two sixes. Granta closed on 297 for 8.
Witchingham made a good fist of the run chase, with Michael Jones (93), James Spelman (59) and Brett Stolworthy (51) all making half-centuries.
However, Henry Campbell claimed three for 64 and Lewys Hill and Ben Claydon got two wickets apiece as Witchingham were bowled out for 292, six runs short of their target.
Burwell & Exning lost by six wickets in a high-scoring game against Copdock & Old Ipswichian.
Joe Tetley made 110 off 91 balls and Jamie Seabrook hit 127 off 78 in a 259-run partnership as Burwell & Exning made 367 for 8.
But 121 from Donald Miambo and big scores from Adam Ball (88) and Alex Oxley (77) helped Copdock & OI to 370 for 4.
