Batsman among the runs in Great Witchingham win

Michael Pepper produced an innings to remember as Cambridge Granta clinched a one-wicket win over Great Witchingham in the Gibbs Denley East Anglian Premier League.

Granta put Witchingham in to bat, and the hosts built up a sizeable total.

James Hale scored 114 not out and Luke Schlemmer hit 83 as Witchingham reached 290 for 5.

Pepper appeared at the crease after opener Dougie Rice fell lbw to Joe Wright with the score at 28 for 1, and he was there when they finished their innings on 292 for 9, having secured victory.

Pepper made 153 not out off 118 balls, including 13 fours and six sixes, and he was helped by Johnny Atkinson’s 48, and there was a valuable 20 from Alex Sears at No 9.

James Hale had proved a menace to Granta’s batsmen, taking four
for 60.

Sam Rippington must have felt hard done by as Burwell were beaten 91 runs at Frinton On Sea.

Rippington was in blistering form with the ball, taking seven for 48 as Frinton were bowled out for 218.

But Burwell’s efforts with the bat let them down.

They were bowled out for 127, with Richard Potter the top scorer
with 44.

Burwell have a local derby at home to Mildenhall this Saturday, while Granta play host to Bury St Edmunds.
