Half-century ends run of three ganes without victory in East Anglian Premier League

A half-century from Paul Summerskill proved the spur to success for Burwell & Exning in the Gibbs Denley East Anglian Premier League as they defeated Vauxhall Mallards by 60 runs.

After a run of three games without a win, Burwell & Exning elected to bat.

It was not the best of starts as Simon Donald was out for a duck, but Andrew Bramley soon started to add some respectability to the score.

He was the third wicket to fall, having hit 47 off 52 balls, as Burwell reached 75 for 3.

It brought Summerskill to the crease, and he was there for the majority of the rest of the innings.

He smashed 65 off 80 balls, and when he was dismissed, Burwell & Exning were on 210 for 8.

Valuable knocks of 20 each from Sam Rippington and Josh Arksey helped Burwell to 236 by the time they were all out.

Mallards made a good start in reply, reaching 48 before losing their first wicket, and from 47 for 0, they then found themselves on 61 for 4.

Burwell & Exning’s bowlers were doing well to prevent any strong partnerships building, with the wickets falling at regular intervals.

No 9 batsman Paul Bradshaw added the most resistance with an unbeaten 42, but Mallards were bowled out for 176.

Jay Ghelani took three for 19 and Nick Huckle claimed three for 38.
