Sacha Abbasi sparkles at the top of Cambridge Granta II order in win over Cambridge St Giles

Opener makes unbeaten century

Sacha Abbasi was the star of the show for Cambridge Granta II as they won by eight wickets against Cambridge St Giles in the Whiting & Partners Cambs and Hunts Premier League, Division Two.

Russell Doel led the way for St Giles with 62, and Will Phelps (48), Chris Badger (39 not out) and Garryth Jackson (32) also contributed to move the score on to 238 for 9.

Opener Abbasi then got to work and made an unbeaten 127, and together with Will Hales’ 82 they made 242 for 2 for victory.

Great Shelford suffered an 86-run defeat to St Ives Town.

Josh Jordan, Paul Ellum and Ben Ball took two wickets each as Shelford stopped St Ives at 194 for 8.

But they could not get going in reply. Only Aaron Spillett (23), Alan Sutton (23) and Guy Ennew (21) got into double figures as Shelford were bowled out for 108.

Sawston & Babraham were left narrowly short as they suffered a one-wicket defeat to March Town.

Captain Marc Pearson (46), Nick Griggs (41) and Alex Stafford (36) had helped Sawston & Babrahm to 242 all out.

Ben Clilverd led the efforts to thwart March in their tracks, taking three for 33, but March’s last-wicket pair of Samuel Clarke and Andrew Wright got them over the line with 243 for 9.

Histon clinched a 67-run win over Kimbolton.

They were bowled out for 289, but then stopped their hosts on 222 for 6.
