Bowler hits top form against Norwich

Henry Campbell was in barnstorming form for Cambridge Granta as they earned an eight-wicket success over Norwich in the Gibbs Denley East Anglian Premier League.

Norwich had won the toss and elected to bat at Clare College, but they were probably ruing that decision when they found themselves 2 for 2.

William O’Donnell’s 66 not out added some respectability to the innings, but they were blown away by Campbell.

The Granta man swept through the middle order, and then finished up the tail as he ended with figures of six for 49 as Norwich were dismissed for 110.

In response, the early loss of Ben Claydon for eight did not throw Granta off their guard as in-form duo Doug Rice and Michael Pepper got to work on the visitors.

Rice was finally dismissed on 44 with the score at 102 for 2, but Pepper’s unbeaten 53 took Granta over the line to 114 for 2.

There was also good news for Burwell as they earned a four-wicket success at Bury St Edmunds.

It was a collective effort for the Burwell bowlers as they stymied Bury’s batting exploits.

Daron Cruickshank made 61, but they were bowled out for 188.

Ayden Brown took three for 45 and Josh Vowden claimed three for 38, while Sam Rippington and Josh Arksey got two wickets apiece.

Tom Jagot then continued his good form, as the opener made 57 and Henry James (39) and Ben Seabrook (32) also made valuable contributions as Burwell reached 189 for 8.

Burwell, who are eighth in the table, are at home to Copdock & Old Ipswichian this Saturday, while fourth-placed Granta have a trip to Horsford.
