Opener smashes century in win, but Cambridge Granta suffer defeat
Tom Griffiths led from the top of the order as Burwell & Exning triumphed by one wicket against Horsford in the Gibbs Denley East Anglian Premier League.
Horsford won the toss and elected to bat, and set about building an impressive total.
Opener Chad Bowes made 80 from 67 balls, and with William Rogers (56) put on 112 for the second wicket.
Ryan Findlay made a valuable knock of 59, but four for 83 from Josh Arksey and three for 82 from Jay Ghelani helped stop Horsford at 328 for 9.
No 2 batsman Griffiths made 121 off 110 balls to anchor the Burwell & Exning reply.
With Andrew Bramley (57), Tyron Koen (41) and Sam Rippington (27 off 19 balls) also keeping the scoreboard ticking, Burwell got to 329 with a wicket to spare.
Raj Singh’s five wickets for Cambridge Granta went unrewarded as they lost by 97 runs against Vauxhall Mallards.
The opening bowler’s efforts restricted the visitors’ innings, with only Matthew Plater (55), Nicholas Smit (66) and Oliver Stone (42) able to get going.
Mallards were bowled out for 216, with Singh snaring five for 57.
However, Granta were unable to muster the runs in reply.
Captain Johnny Atkinson was the top scorer with 31 as they were bowled out for 119.
