And Cambridge South are still on their heels
Three players scored two goals apiece as Cambridge Nomads continued their 100 per cent start to the season with a 7-0 win over Norwich City in East Men’s League, Division 2N.
Richard Lloyd and Jack Franklin fired them to a 2-0 lead at half time.
They dominated possession after the break, with Martin Hamon and Lloyd scoring penalty corners, and Sam Walker-Farrant, Franklin and Hamon also on target from open play.
Cambridge South bounced back from defeat to Nomads by maintaining the pressure on the leaders with a 3-1 win over Bourne Deeping II.
Joel Harrison made an early goal-line clearance for South, who then went down the other end and took the lead through Tom Kemsley’s deflected effort.
Bourne equalised through a penalty corner, but South regained their lead by half time as a long corner led to an unmarked Harry Lewis turning in.
Chris Pearson completed the scoring from a penalty corner in the second half, as Harry Chalk was named man of the match.
Paul Matthews scored a hat-trick as Nomads II won 5-4 against Cambridge City V in 4NW. Matthew Huchu and Julian West were also on target.
David Bagnall and Bhav Virdi were on target for South II as their unbeaten start to the season was brought to an end as Spalding II scored midway through the second half to win 3-2 in 4NW.
Man-of-the-match Tom Blair scored for South III as they drew 1-1 with Alford & District in 4NW.
Alford took a first-half lead, but South were more dynamic after the break, and Blair poached the equaliser from close range.
South IV were given a hockey lesson by a well-drilled Bourne Deeping IV side as they were beaten 6-2 in 5NW. Their goals came through Oli Scott and man-of-the-match George Weston, his first for the club.
Steve Browne’s opener could not inspire South V to victory as Ely City III fought back to earn a 3-1 win over 6NW (S).
Scott Gilmour, Nathanael Farrant and Eddie Harper were on target for Cambridge City as they drew 3-3 with Southgate in the Men’s Hockey League, Conference East.
