The Perse School pupil earns top selection
James Tee has earned a national football call-up.
The 15-year-old Perse School student has been chosen to play for the Independent Schools Football Association under-16s national team, in a squad of 18 from across the country.
Tee currently plays for Cambridge City, having previously spent seven years in the Cambridge United academy.
On the call-up, Tee said: “I was over the moon of course.
“It’s a big achievement for me and a proud moment.”
Tee will be heading to St George’s Park this week for a two-day training camp, and the squad will then go overseas during Easter for a series of games.
“I started off as striker, and then I gradually moved into the midfield and then finally the defence where I now play left-back,” said Tee.
“I enjoy the position because you can attack as well as defend and you get a mixture of both so I’ve kind of grown attached to the position now.
“When I was five years old I really didn’t like football because I was smaller than everyone.
“After a year or so when I came back into it, I just suddenly found a love for the sport and I used to play in the garden with my dad a lot and it just grew on me the more I played.”
