Roy Turnham is the Cambridge United Sport in the Community Awards star of the month.
Turnham was born blind through a genetic condition and grew up in Liverpool. He now lives in Cambridge and is an accomplished footballer and tennis player.
Turnham’s exceptional footballing ability has been consistently recognised on an international stage as he represents England’s and Great Britain’s blind football team. So far, he has 52 caps and 16 goals on the international stage.
Not only does Turnham compete internationally in blind football he is now turning his athletic abilities to tennis.
Alexander Wheen who works for Vision4Growth, a local charity who help visually impaired people take part in sport, said: “Roy is not only a talented athlete, he’s a great people person.
“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed watching him as he’s gone on to having great success in tennis as well as football winning several regional tennis tournaments last year.
“Roy has strong ambitions to develop as a football coach this year so we really wish him well in doing that and helping other blind and visually impaired people get in to sport.”
