South earn Ives draw

Heather Borsuk scored to earn Cambridge South a 1-1 draw with St Ives II in East Women’s League, Division 3NW.

In a close match, St Ives failed to put away a penalty stroke in the first half, but succeeded at the second attempt after another goal-line clearance hit a South foot.

But Borsuk levelled matters from a penalty corner after several previous attempts had been parried by the defence.

Cambridge South II were held to a 0-0 draw by Ely City II in 4NW, while their third team was beaten 3-0 by St Neots III.

Cambridge Nomads were punished by a more ruthless Long Sutton side as they lost 5-1 in 2NW.

Nomads dominated for large periods of the first half, while Long Sutton capitalised on their opportunities scoring twice, including from a short corner when two Nomads defender had been sent to halfway for breaking early.

Long Sutton had the better of the second half, although Flip Toley scored Nomads’ goal.

But Nomads had much to take from the game, including Gemma May stepping up as a late replacement ‘keeper.

Amy Kingston scored a hat-trick for Cambridge Nomads II as they won 4-0 against Huntingdon II in 4NW.

Nomads dominated possession, and were inspired to their win after Jenny Lovegrove’s opening goal in the first half.

Jess Czink scored Cambridge University III’s goal as they lost 4-1 to Newmarket in 2NW, while the first team was beaten 2-0 at St Albans in the Premier Division.

In the Investec Women’s Hockey League, Conference East, Cambridge City were beaten 1-0 at Wimbledon.
