City turn on the style against Southgate
Helen Richardson-Walsh grabbed two goals as Cambridge City produced a crushing performance to beat Southgate 5-1 in Investec Women’s Hockey League, Conference East.
Caitlin Wales gave Southgate the lead at Wilberforce Road, but Rebecca Hayward equalised and a minute later Richardson-Walsh had her first goal.
Richardson-Walsh made it 3-1 in the second half, and Ella Dowling and Hannah De Selincourt were on target to complete the win.
Cambridge South saw their unbeaten start to the 2NW season brought to an end with a 2-0 defeat to Cambridge University II.
Beth Barker scored two early goals for the students that proved too much for South to overcome.
Sweeper Robyn McLean was player-of-the-match for South, who stay top of the table after Long Sutton were also beaten.
Ellie Martin produced some impressive skills to score for Cambridge Nomads, but they lost 3-1 at Alford.
Katie Gibson scored after two minutes to put Cambridge South II on their way to a 5-0 win over Ely City II in 4NW (S).
Kendra Seed grabbed two more before half time and Katherine Hueston and Izzy MacDonald-Parry got one apiece after the interval, as Ellie Raffan and Harriet Shipley starred in South’s defence.
Lucy Davidson got five goals as South III won 14-0 against Newmarket IV in 5NW (S).
Kath Atkin and player-of-the-match Jess Woodhouse both netted hat-tricks, Dani Arnold bagged a brace and Lauren Coates got one as South took their tally to 30 goals in their last three matches to remain top of the table.
Sarah Warren hit a hat-trick for Cambridge Nomads II as they beat Cambridge City V 5-2.
Sara Horsfield and Ailsa Malcolm were also on target.
South IV had to settle for a share of the spoils as they were held to a 0-0 draw by Bury St Edmunds IV.
In a well-contested match, South had joint winners of the player-of-the-match award, Jessica Matthews-Kelly and Jasmine Ong.
