Stutes set for relegation clash

Lance Key is galvanising his Histon squad for their “biggest game of the season” when Aylesbury visit the Glass World Stadium this Saturday.

The Stutes earned a valuable 2-0 win at Marlow last weekend as they bid to beat the drop from Evo-Stik League Southern, Division One Central, and now they face the team just above them – outside the relegation places – this Saturday.

And Histon manager Key is not underestimating the magnitude of the clash with Aylesbury.

“The next three games are huge for us and it’s a six-pointer this weekend – if we can win, it gives us hope,” said Key.

“We’re eight points adrift still, with six games to go. With six games to go, we need four wins.

“It doesn’t get much bigger than this in the scheme of things.

“It’s probably the biggest game of the season for us and if we can get the win it would give us confidence for the week after.

“It’s a huge three points up for grabs.

“If we lost it, there are still five games for us – but this Saturday will be the biggest one thus far.”

They boosted their hopes of survival with the 2-0 win over Marlow at the weekend, with goals from Max York and Jake Chambers-Shaw.

But Arlesey and Aylesbury also won.

“It was very good,” said Key. “We played some lovely football. It was 2-0 but should have been four or five to be honest. It was probably the most professional 45 minutes since I’ve been here.

“It was a very good performance on the day. Obviously, the down side was Arlesey and Aylesbury

both winning.”
