Stutes seal big win over Blackstones

Histon made smooth progress into the second qualifying round of the FA Vase.

Having only lost twice in 12 games so far this season, the Stutes headed into the first-round game against Blackstones with confidence.

And they would have been determined to make it into the next round after a disappointing defeat in the early stages of the FA Cup.

It did not take them long to break the deadlock as Joe Sutton scored after only two minutes.

Nine minutes later, Matt Hayden made it 2-0 with a low shot from the edge of the area, and the striker got his second, and Histon’s third, after 25 minutes.

It was 4-0 by half time as Ed Rolph slotted a shot under the Blackstones keeper.

Blackstones pulled a goal back not long into the second half, but Histon wrapped up their 5-1 win when James Carman headed back across goal for Shaun Jenkins to bundle in from close range.

Histon will face the winners of the replay between Cogenhoe United and Rothwell in the second qualifying round on Saturday, September 23.

This Saturday (September 16), Histon host Stowmarket Town in the Thurlow Nunn League, Premier Division.
