New signing impresses
Lance Key has praised the impact of Histon’s new signing Ross Munro.
The midfielder joined the Evo Stik League Southern, Division One Central side last week and impressed his manager as Histon were beaten 2-1 at home by Aylesbury United.
“We had a meeting on the Thursday and my conversation was that I hadn’t seen him play for a while, and he was willing to come in and prove his worth,” said Key. “And he did prove his worth.
“Ross just broke play up and became a foil for the centre forwards. He had a presence about him which then others fed off.
“We will still try to add to the squad and they know that as they need one or two older faces around them. It’s about a bit more experience as that’s what we’re lacking.”
Aylesbury had gone 2-0 up in the first half, but Histon were much better after the break, with Ben Yeomans pulling a goal back.
“It was a game of two halves really,” said Key. “A young, inexperienced first 45 minutes that cost us two goals and we had a little go at them at half time and they responded magnificently.
“It gave me hope with the way we played in the second half and if they can recreate that for 90 minutes then we will win games.
“We were unlucky not to get something out of the game.
“I said to them ‘I can’t compliment you as we lost the game in the first half’. Hopefully they can give us 90 minutes in one go, though it may not come in one go.”
