Doubles all round for South
Doubles were the order of the day for Cambridge South II as they won 6-2 against Cambridge City V in East Women’s League, Division 4NW (S).
City started the scoring but after recovering from a sluggish start Kendra Seed equalised for South, and then set up Eimear Lee to make it 2-1.
Izzy MacDonald-Parry made it 3-1 before City reduced the arrears before half time. But after the break, Seed, Lee and MacDonald-Parry all found the target again to seal the victory.
Cambridge Nomads secured a 3-2 win over Bourne Deeping in 2NW.
Cambridge South will have to wait before confirming their promotion in 3NW after losing 2-1 to Pelicans.
South went behind after only a couple of minutes to a well-executed penalty corner by the Pelicans, but they soon got into their stride. A combination of factors denied them an equaliser before half time, but at the start of the second period, Kim Cooil converted a penalty corner for South to make it 1-1.
But with 10 minutes remaining, Pelicans struck the eventual winner to deny South the opportunity to seal promotion.
Cambridge South III picked up their most comprehensive win of the season, beating Ely City III 4-0 in 4NW (S). Three goals from penalty corners – two from Pippa Saunders and one from Hayley Pryke – in the last 10 minutes of the first half were the foundation to South’s win.
Ely came out fighting in the second half, but Emily Stevenson’s goal completed South’s win.
While there was a thumping 13-0 win for Cambridge Nomads II against Newmarket IV in 4NW (S).
