All eyes now on Thruxton

Luke Davenport is targeting a more consistent set of results after a mixed weekend in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at Donnington Park.

It was a difficult event for Team Shredded Wheat Racing with DUO as they showed flashes of pace, but two early retirements for Mat Jackson – in races two and three – left them reeling.

He picked up five points for 11th in the first race, but was unable to back that up after an opening lap shunt in the second, and in torrential rain in the third, he was pushed into the barriers at high speed.

But Davenport celebrated his highest finish for the team.

After placing 19th in the first race, an outstanding drive saw the 23-year-old Cambridge driver make up 16 places from 32nd on the grid in the second – narrowly missing out on collecting his maiden BTCC point.

In the third race, he was 26th.

Team-mate Martin Depper did not finish the first race and was 25th in races two and three.

“I thought we’d got our difficult weekend out of the way at Brands but it seems not,” said Davenport. “It was the first time that I’d driven the car in anger in the wet so that was a big learning curve for me. It was annoying not to have had more consistent results from the three races and to have just missed out on the points in race two was a shame, but I’m pleased that I did get to
show my true pace and race craft in that race.

“The plan is to take that forward to Thruxton now with the aim of a more consistent set of results closer to the sharp end.”

And team principal David Bartrum said: “Luke had a good weekend in a roundabout way.

“He made a mistake in race one with the yellow flag and was penalised for that but I think race two showed what is to come from him in the future.

“But as a team, it was a very trying weekend, especially off the back of Brands Hatch.”
