Rob Huff made the most his a two-month break in the World Touring Car Cup to taste success at the Silverstone Classic.

The Cambridge-based driver earned two pole positions in two categories, and with co-driver Andy Wolfe dominated the Gallet Trophy for Under 2-Litre Touring Cars.

In a rain-hit qualifying session for the Transatlantic Trophy for Pre 1066 Touring Cars, Huff took pole position.

The Ford Falcon had not been driven competitively for two years and struggled in the early stages with co-driver Trevor Buckley at the wheel, falling to sixth.

Huff took over for the last 25 minutes, and they finished fourth, 26 seconds behind the winner.

In the Gallet Trophy, Huff was driving a Ford Lotus Cortina and it proved more successful.

Having qualified on pole, he raced clear before handing over to Wolfe, who extended the lead to win by 17 seconds.

“It’s been a mega weekend,” said Huff. “The Wolfe guys have done an amazing job with the Lotus Cortina. It’s so much fun to drive. Touring cars are touring cars, whether it’s an old Cortina, or my new Sébastien Loeb Racing Volkswagen Golf.

“These things definitely behave a bit differently, it’s great fun to power through the corners on the throttle.

“The Ford Falcon is a beautiful car and we did a great job in the rain to put it on pole.

“The car, and Trevor in fact, haven’t raced in two years, and the set-up needed a little more work so ultimately we didn’t have the pace to win that one, but in this kind of racing it’s having fun that counts the most, and we’ve had a really fun weekend.”
