Cantabs well placed after second leg
Cantabrigian Rowing Club strengthened their positions across the board after the second leg of the Cambridge Winter League.
The senior women’s squad had the two fastest crews on the day, with the A boat finishing seventh fastest overall.
Cantabs’ women also held their lead in the women’s Club A coxed fours, despite a disappointing race.
It means there will be all to play for in the third leg against some strong crews from Cambridge 99.
The senior men’s crew lead the eights’ championship by 53 seconds from City of Cambridge.
Georgie Plunkett was first in the women’s single sculls to lead the series by more than two minutes.
Jimmy Adams extended his lead in the men’s single sculls to 31 seconds, over a rival from Cambridge 99.
Plunkett and Adams also joined forces to be the fastest double scull, beating all the men’s doubles.
Cantabs’ junior performance squad won the women’s novice eights, women’s J16 quads and women’s J18 quads, who were also the third fastest women’s crew overall.
The Hills Road Sixth Form College boys’ crew extended their lead in the novice eight, with second place going to Cantabs’ Poachers squad.
Meanwhile, the university crews had warm-up fixtures for their respective Cancer Research UK Boat Races at the weekend.
Cambridge University Boat Club faced the University of London in three pieces of work, and won all three.
CUWBC also faced University of London, in two pieces of work, and took victory in both.
