Two crews earn wins at Holme Pierrepont

Two City of Cambridge crews savoured success at the Nottingham City Regatta.

The women’s coxless four and the men’s coxless pair fought off crews from across the country to taste success at the National Water Sports Centre in Holme Pierrepont.

The regatta is an early fixture in the summer rowing calendar, with racing taking place over a 2km course.

It was a highly competitive event and there were challenging conditions due to a strong tailwind, with some waves high enough to enter competitors’ boats.

The men’s coxless pair of Stuart Ladd and Vincent Dubois stormed to victory in a straight final in the morning division.

They crossed the line in first place in 7min 38sec.

Then the women’s coxless four, comprising Sarah Large, Alice Adriaenssens, Hannah Creasey and Susanne Valens, won in 7.31.4.

“We are really proud of all our members who competed,” said a club spokesman.

“Wins in two categories is an excellent result and will add to our momentum for the regatta season.”

City of Cambridge – the city’s oldest non-university rowing club – has a thriving membership of rowers aged 14 and above, and is in the process of rebuilding its boathouse in a £1million project.
