Hayward and Bailey at the double
James Hayward and Tom Bailey touched down two tries apiece as Cantabrigian stretched their unbeaten run to nine London League 2NE games with a 36-5 win over Epping Upper Clapton.
The deadlock was broken in the 20th minute when Hayward landed a penalty for the hosts.
From a catch and drive at a line-out, Bailey dived over the line and Hayward’s conversion made it 10-0.
After some good recycling play from Cantabs, Hayward spotted a gap to dart through and score under the posts, with his extras making it 17-0 at half time.
Epping opened the second half with an unconverted try after a quick tap penalty from their fly-half.
But from then on it was all Cantabs.
After a series of scrums, possession was moved wide by Cantabs to Hayward, who just got the ball down in the corner, with Nick Denham landing the conversion to make it 24-5.
The bonus-point winning fourth try came when Bailey received Euan Willder’s long pass out to the left.
The hooker then broke one tackle and sold a dummy pass out wide before crashing over for his second try, which was converted by Hayward.
The scoring was completed when Dean James spotted the opportunity to go for the line, and dived over to score.
