Bonus point win on the road for Cantabs

Richard Knight and Tom Bailey both touched down twice as Cantabrigian triumphed 38-25 at Harlow in London League 2NE.

It only took a minute for them to open the scoring, with Ollie Townsend first to a bouncing ball to get his first try of the season, with James Hayward adding the conversion.

After a line-out win by Rich Ford, Knight got possession and darted through a ruck of players to get the second try, with the extras making it 14-0 inside five minutes.

Harlow woke up to get their own converted try, but Cantabs went straight back down the other end and Hayward’s off-load to Michael Pedder saw the hooker dive under the posts for his first try of the season. Hayward converted to make it 21-7.

They had the four-try bonus point as Knight shot through a non-existent defence to score by the posts, and the kick made it 28-7.

Harlow rallied and got two unconverted tries before half time to reduce the deficit to 28-17.

Cantabs were back on the scoreboard five minutes into the second half, with Bailey finishing off a catch and drive.

Harlow kicked a penalty to make it 33-20, but Cantabs repeated the feat of their previous efforts, with Bailey finishing off another catch and drive from a line-out to make it 38-20.

The hosts did earn a bonus point with a fourth try, but Cantabs never looked like conceding again, and secured a 38-25 win.

Shelford’s losing run in London & SE Premier continued as they were defeated 46-8 at Tring.
