Bonus-point win for Cantabs
Pete Collins pounced for the all-important bonus-point winning try as Cantabrigian defeated Ipswich 26-20 in London League 2NE.
Ipswich made all the early running and went ahead through a penalty after 10 minutes.
The visitors continued to attack and increased their lead when their No 8 sliced through the defence to score under the posts, with the conversion making it 10-0.
After Ipswich had a prop sin-binned, Cantabs pulled a try back at the end of the first half, with the referee awarding a penalty try at the scrum, with Nick Denham landing the conversion.
Ollie Townsend shipped the ball left and Francois Eve was in space to score under the posts, with Denham converting to make it 14-10.
But Ipswich regained the lead through their winger racing clear, and the conversion made it 17-14.
The Ipswich scrum-half was then sin-binned, and from the following line-out, a maul was formed and it ended with James Balfe getting the ball down to edge Cantabs 19-17 ahead.
The bonus-point winning try came for the hosts when Dave Evershed went for a telling drive for the line, and play was then recycled for Collins to touch down, with Denham converting to make it 26-17.
Ipswich replied with a penalty, but Cantabs played out the final minutes of the half relatively easily to seal the win.
