Promising table tennis player earns award

Table tennis player Sam Chesterman has been presented with a £1,000 award from SportsAid.

The Cambridge-based youngster, who is in the England youth squad, received the grant at a lunch at Cambridge United.

The bursary was awarded for training and competition travel costs and Roger Fennemore, regional director of SportsAid Eastern, said: “Sam’s commitment to sport and his motivation is an inspiration to us all.

“We’re delighted that the Cambridge Sporting Lunch Club’s donation will help with his expenses and enable him to represent Team GB in international competitions.”

Chesterman was presented with the cheque by Dan Greaves, who was the headline speaker at the lunch club.

He has competed in the last five Paralympics, winning gold in Athens, silver in Sydney and London and bronze in Beijing and Rio.
