Jake Murdoch has double joy for Shelford on injury return

Under-15s follow up Eastern Counties Cup success

Shelford under-15s followed up their impressive Eastern Counties Cup win by beating Stowmarket 42-5.

Jake Murdoch marked his return from injury with two tries, while Robbie Dodsworths, Jacob Absolom, George Doel and Hamish Brewis got one apiece ash Shelford played with pace and intent against a strong opposition.

Fly-half Archie Calne had a 100 per cent record with the boot, landing six out of six conversions.

The work at the break down and set piece laid the foundations for the tries, with Tom Rickets playing well at hooker in his first match for the under-15s.

Shelford under-14s did the double in a triangular fixture against Cambridge and North Walsham.

In their first game against Walsham, Lewis Hall got the opening try, with Joshua Speechley adding the conversion.

They extended their lead when Charlie Yeneralski drove over the line to touch down, with Speechley kicking the extras to make it 14-0.

North Walsham touched down just before half time, and then got a second try after the break, but Shelford earned a 14-10 win.

Cambridge had beaten North Walsham 26-17 sot it set up a deciding fixture with Shelford.

Cambridge got the first try, but Shelford hit back as Hall used his strength to touch down to level the scores.

Shelford’s forwards set up the next try, with a tap penalty leading to Will Barnett going over the line, and Speechley converting.

After the break, Matt Saville Stones dived over the line under the posts, and Speechley converted.

The scoring was completed when Kieran Frost drove over from five metres, and Speechley converted to make it 26-5 to Shelford.

Harry Grenville was Shelford parents’ player of the day, with Will Barnett the back of the day and Freddie Spence the forward of the day.
