Injury-hit hosts earn draw

Josh Simmons scored and converted an injury-time try to earn a depleted Shelford a 23-23 draw against Dorking in National League Three London & SE.

Captain Richy McIver failed a late fitness test which led to call-ups for Doug Finlayson and Harry Robbins just half an hour before kick-off, and then they lost Will Lawson to a hamstring tear after three minutes and Andrew Hutchinson to injury before half time.

And to compound matters, Redmond Newberry and Jack Harvey received yellow cards during the match.

Newberry scored a good well-worked try, Scott Jackowski dotted down following a drive from a line-out, and fly-half Simmons landed two penalties in the first half.

Dorking struck back with a try and two penalties to leave the score at 16-11 at half time.

The visitors then went ahead thanks to a team try and a penalty for 18-16, and they furthered their advantage with another try after Charlie Baker had a clearing kick charged down.

As the clock ticked down, some strong carries from Tuli Paea took play to the Dorking line and after the final scrum took more than five minutes to complete, Simmons touched down and converted to earn Shelford a hard-fought 23-23 draw.
