Safety assured in London & SE Premier

Shelford maintained their barnstorming end to the season to beat Tunbridge Wells 27-10 in London & SE Premier Division.

They had all but secured their status with victory over Sutton & Epsom the previous week, but were looking to sign off on a high with their third win in a row.

Josh Simmons kicked Shelford ahead but Tunbridge hit back to go 5-3 ahead. Otunuku Pautu’s try gave the hosts the lead, however, Tunbridge scored again to be 10-8 up at half time.

Tries from Josh Simmons, Charlie Parkhouse and Teddy Hepworth, with two conversions by Simmons, sealed the win.

There was a double blow for Shelford’s junior teams.

The under-16s were beaten 38-36 by Maldon.

Taylor Hein-Jones scored a hat-trick of tries and Jake Murdoch, Jacob Absolom and Walter Watson got one apiece, with Watson also landing three conversions.

Shelford colts suffered semi-final heartbreak in the Eastern Counties Cup.

Woodbridge struck after only 90 seconds, and they went on to make it 31-0 by half time.

Olly Cooper and Josh Parkhouse touched down for Shelford in the second half, with James Gould landing a conversion, but they lost 53-12.
