Surrendering an early lead to Hertford proved costly for Shelford as they lost 37-19 in National League Three, London & SE.

In the first 25 minutes, missed tackles and poor handling led to Hertford racing into a 22-0 lead.

But as the heavy rain arrived, Shelford’s pack began to make inroads.

A couple of line breaks led to the forwards collectively putting Hertford under pressure, and Josh Simmons darted through to touch down, and his conversion made it 22-7 at half time.

Just after half time, Charlie Baker broke through from 20 metres out to dot down to make it 22-12.

However, Hertford slotted a penalty and then got two tries, one of which was converted, to take the game away from Shelford at 37-12.

There was still a chance for Shelford to get a third try though, as Charlie Parkhouse sidestepped his way under the posts, with Simmons landing the conversion to make it 37-19.

Shelford are away to Dorking this Saturday (September 16).
