South stay top
Sophie McComish scored twice for Cambridge South as they won 3-0 against Huntingdon in East Women’s League, Division 3NW.
South were made to work hard in the first half to resist the pressure from a determined Huntingdon side, but the tables were turned after the break.
South were clinical in their opponents’ D, with Laura Ludlow grabbing a goal and McCornish continuing her fine scoring form this season with two.
The victory keeps South at the top of the table.
There were mixed results for South sides in 4NW (S).
The second team battled well in their derby match against Cambridge City V but, despite some excellent runs, they were unable to put away their chances.
However, their attacking intent bodes well for future matches.
But South III earned a 1-1 draw with Ely III.
An intense team performance was their best of the campaign so far, and player-of-the-match Polly Lockyer scored her first goal for the club.
Strong defences were on top in 2NW, as Cambridge Nomads drew 0-0 with St Neots as Kate Westgate was named Nomads’ player of the match.
Cambridge South’s mixed team beat their Cambridge Nomads II rivals 5-2.
McComish continued her goal-scoring spree with one, as did Chris Pearson, who got two strikes.
Richard Hollidge also added two goals for South, while Nomads’ goals came in the second half.
In an indoor match, Cambridge South were beaten 7-0 by Cambridge City, whose National League experience came to the fore.
Pearson had several good chances for South but was thwarted by the skilful City keeper, while City’s use of rotating substitutes meant they were always able to apply the pressure.
