Victoria Knight made an international breakthrough last month, and her achievements have helped her be named the champion of the month.

The 40-year-old mother of two, a cardiac rehabilitation nurse, only seriously focused on her athletics 18 months ago, and it has certainly reaped rewards.

Victoria was only running local races, but after a conversation with coach Mark Vile at the Buntingford 10K, she joined his training group at Cambridge & Coleridge Athletic Club and has not looked back.

The C&C member earned her first call-up to the England squad at the beginning of the month to compete in the Mitja Marató de Granollers Half Marathon in Granollers, Spain.

She finished sixth overall in a personal best 74min 48sec, and was the second English runner home.

“It was an excellent achievement and puts her No 1 in Britain in her age group at veteran 40 and fifth overall,” said Vile.

“To get a full England vest at the age of 40, to go out and run in Spain against 25 and 30 year olds at the pinnacle of their career is amazing.

“She is a great inspiration for the kids in the club as she shows that if you work hard you can get there.”

Club of the month:

Linton Aztecs are a very progressive club, currently running 19 teams, three of which are girls’ teams which they have developed over the past couple
of seasons.

They are a charter standard club and won Cambridgeshire FA charter standard club of the year last season.

Linton Aztecs chairman Malcolm Peters said: “We have worked hard with local schools, Cambridgeshire FA and coaches over the last three years to build up our girls’ teams from scratch and are proud of the position we’re in now.”
