Three podium spots claimed at national finals

Gabriel Strydom-Green was crowned national champion at the Trampoline League finals at the Olympic Park.

And it was a day for Cambridge Cangaroos to remember as two other trampolinists earned places on the podium at the Lea Valley Velodrome.

Having qualified via events throughout the year, Cangaroos had six athletes taking part in the two-day finals.

In the 13-14 League 2 men’s competition, Strydom-Green looked to have taken the silver medal, but his coaches noticed that the difficulty score had been incorrectly recorded on the result sheet.

So with the intervention of the Cangaroos’ head coach, Strydom-Green’s score of 46.255 points saw him elevated to the gold medal and league champion.

In the 11-12 League 2 men’s competition, Abhi McDonald Marlow was pipped to the gold medal by just 0.2, with his score of 46.24 earning the silver medal.

Strydom-Green and McDonald Marlow narrowly missed out on the bronze medal in the synchro final, having to settle for fourth place.

Zach Goggin and James Able completed the list of Cangaroos’ finalists, competing in the 15-16 League 1 men’s event.

Able scored 47.105 to improve on his preliminary round performance, but it meant he finished fifth.

But Goggin maximised his potential to score 48.435 to climb one place from the preliminary round to take the bronze medal.

In the 11-12 League 3 women’s competition preliminary round, Macy Dexter was 13th with 79.055, and Sydney Kelly was also unable to make the final, finishing 11th
with 82.755.

Cangaroos’ season ends with their own club competition at Cambridge Regional College this Sunday (December 17).
