Osian Williams and Abi Halliday earn top honours at Roy Burrell Awards

Pupils take plaudits for sporting successes
Osian Williams and Abi Halliday were the winners of the Greg Alvey Award at the Roy Burrell Awards at Netherhall School.
Williams, a Netherhall student, has represented Eastern Counties rugby, while Abi Halliday is a sport captain and hockey player at Sawston Village College.
Both were recognised for their outstanding contribution to school sport.
Swavesey Village College’s Ellie Allen was named the outstanding sports leader; and cross-country runner and sports leader James Orrell, of Cambourne Village College, won the achievement over adversity prize.
The Leys School hockey player Katie Curtis was the sportswoman of the year – as The Leys’ under-16 girls’ hockey took the team prize – with St Mary’s footballer Emma Wallis second and Bottisham Village College swimmer Lauren Watt third.
Ben Knight, a footballer at Bottisham, was named the sportsman of the year, with Comberton rugby player Kayde Sylvester second and Melbourn swimmer Jake Moxham third.
The awards were set up in 1977 to remember Roy Burrell, the deputy headmaster at Chesterton Community College who passed away aged 49 and aims to award those who has shown outstanding commitment and passion for their sport.
Three-time Olympian and world champion diver Rebecca Gallantree presented the awards.
