Record entry take part in event
Youngsters from all over the country converged on Bourn Golf Club to take part in the British Junior Golf Tour tournament.
A record field of 102 players were in action in an event that was held in conjunction with the Bourn Junior Open, with the perfect conditions taking some getting used to as greens proved faster than the recent soft conditions.
It was the mixed gross division that incorporated the junior open, and it went down to the wire to decide the winner.
Hendon’s Zak Rzymokowski was crowned the 2018 champion on countback from Bury St Edmunds’ Teddy Hall after both shot 77.
Bourn’s Matthew Peer used home advantage to take victory in the net division with 71, with Langdon Hills’ Ciara Rushmer a shot further back in second.
In the 11 to 13 division, Dartford’s Jack Lee was a different class off the red tee with level par for the win. Bury St Edmunds’ Tyler Weaver was two shots back in second and Frinton’s Jamie Sach third.
Bishop’s Stortford’s Ben Sessions earned his first win of the season in the nine to 10 division, earning the biggest winning margin after shooting 39 to beat Enville’s Ronnie Groves and Burford’s Olly Filo by seven.
Billy Wood (Stoke Park), Rohan Neat (Ely City) and Quin Monaghan (Sprowston Manor) all tied for fourth with 47.
Oliver Robertson made the trip down from Scotland to score 40 for victory in the seven to eight category, ahead of Stoke Park’s Sam Wilson (41) and Gravesend’s Michael Haywood (42).
Downshire’s Sebastian Duffield picked up the win in the six and under age group with 39, two clear of South Herts’ Dylan Barney. Jenson Ringer (Rochester & Cobham Park), Billy Parrish (Maylands) and Sully Donald (Warren) were tied for third.
The British Junior Golf Tour will be returning to Cambridgeshire on Sunday, June 3 at Cambridge Meridian Golf Club.
