I Will Find You, published last year and based on real events, deals with child migration – although it is not specifically about that.

This tale of mystery and intrigue starts in wartime Fenland – Mepal, near Ely – and moves halfway across the world to Australia.

The story charts the journey of young Robbie Spalding and his path from a Dr Barnardo’s Home in Cambridge to a new life Down Under.

He eventually finds himself in Australia in the notorious Clontarf Boys Town in Perth. He runs away, lives with Aboriginals in the outback and then, as a young man, sets out to search for his mother.

As his records were deliberately destroyed and his name changed, it becomes an almost impossible task. He is eventually led back to Cambridge, Ely and the Fens.

I Will Find You is the product of seven years of research in the UK and Australia. Cambridge City Library have placed a copy in their archives, describing it as “a significant work by a local author”.

John Taylor was born in Ely, brought up in Littleport and has recently moved from Cambridge to Folkestone after almost 40 years of living in Switzerland, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and Papua new Guinea.
