After having bought my tickets for this packed gig several months ago, on a fairly mild Hallowe’en night I went to the Corn Exchange to see The Proclaimers.

After the support act, Jack Lukeman, and the interval, the act that I had been looking forward to for months came on stage, starting with Angry Cyclist, the title track from their new album.

The following one and a half hours did not disappoint. The Proclaimers are one of those bands who are as good live as on their CDs and they remain faithful to how the songs actually sound on their CDs, rather than trying to do something different with them when playing them live.

As someone who has seen The Proclaimers live before, this time there was a different mixture of songs, a few of which I had not heard before. The gig included their most well-known songs – I’m on My Way, Letter from America and Let’s Get Married, to name a few, before ending with I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) – before the encore, of course.

There were some songs to appeal to those who have come to know The Proclaimers through their film, Sunshine on Leith, eg Sky Takes the Soul and Make My Heart Fly. They also performed two of my favourite songs – Rainbows & Happy Regrets and Life with You.

All in all, a great gig with a good variety of songs – well-known and not so well-known, slow and touching, and louder – and everybody was on their feet by the end. An act that it is definitely worth seeing live.

The only disappointment is that I won’t be able to see them live until they tour around this area again.
