Appearing at the Cambridge Folk Club on Friday, February 17 will be this exciting, London-based folk collective – seven days after their debut album, All That We Had, We Stole, is released.

The title is eye-catching. Is there any truth to it? “Metaphorically, more than anything else!” laughed singer Angie Rance, who also plays trumpet, flugelhorn, accordion, piano and harmonica.

“The song came first. Luke [Owen, lead vocalist and guitarist] had written All That We Had, We Stole, the final track on the record, about the way you’re influenced by others – be that in the arts or in conversations with people.

“Everything is influenced by something that’s gone before, and we just figured it was quite true of us. Most of the musicians in the band we stole from other bands, so it’s a bit of a cheeky nod to that!”

Completing the line-up are Gabriel Merryfield on violin and drums, Nick Edward Harris on bass, percussion, harmonica and vocals, and Derek Yau on cello, double bass and piano.

“Luke formed a band about six or seven years ago and the two of us met on that project,” recalled Rance. “It didn’t work out, but we decided we loved playing together and we had a big musical affinity with one another.

“We decided to make a new band – that was back in 2011. But the band we are now has only been playing together since 2014.”

Doors open 7.30pm.

Tickets: £10 (door), £9 (advance), £8 (members). Box office: cambridgefolkclub.co.uk.
