The Lawrence Room displays the impressive collection of Girton College, with artifacts dating back to the fourth century BC. It features over 100 items excavated from a Roman and Anglo-Saxon burial site in Girton, as well as donated artifacts from Egyptian, Mediterranean, Mesopotamian and Far Eastern private collections.

Hermione, a mummy excavated from Egypt, is among the collections - thought to be a young female scholar, it was for this reason that efforts were made to house her in a the college.

As a way to portray the life of British people at the turn of the millennium, the Royal Society of Portrait Painters compiled a collection of diverse portraits that made up the People’s Portraits exhibition.

The collection has been displayed at Girton College since 2002, and each year new portraits are added to the collection by the Royal Society of Portrait Painters.
