Coming 200 years after the death of Jane Austen, a charming new version of Emma has been on a tour of six UK towns and cities, with its final dates in Cambridge.

A cast of nine brought the comic masterpiece, full of warmth and wit, to life on an interesting stage set-up which I wasn’t too sure about at first.

Period tables and chairs were surrounded by a raised wooden circular walkway that actually worked quite well against a splendid painted countryside backdrop.

The actors seemed to relish in their roles and special mention must go to Bethan Nash, who excelled as Emma, and Polly Misch who was simply delightful as the wonderfully sweet and innocent Harriet Smith.

The play has it all – laughter, drama, romance and a happy ending. What more could you ask?

Emma is on tonight (Friday) and tomorrow night at 7.45, with a matinee performance on Saturday at 2.30pm.

Tickets are from £18 to £33 and include a £3 per-ticket booking fee.
